Richmond Lock & Weir
The Walkway
The Workings
View all 18 photos...
Yesterday I took a walk.

Richmond Lock is now the end of the tidal stretch of The Thames. It's natural end was at Teddington a couple more miles up river, the name believed to be a corruption of Tide End Town.

For the last few days The Thames has been incredibly low. normally running well up the side walls it almost appears to be drying up.

The Kew Meridian is at The Kings Observatory. Modern time is always set from The Greenwich Observatory, but before it's establishment, The Kings Time was set from Kew. The line was actually taken from a transit of Venus. which makes it around 16 minuits out from GMT.

It's a time to remember the good days, the happy times, the fun things. Even though your time together was short, I hope there are many, many memories of your special gal. Thu 22-Jul-2004 22:25

Related to trees?

Just a tree.
Almost human.
I was taking photos in a local park and chose this because of the patterning on the trunk. I suddenly realised that upside down it had a tremendously human-like form. If I was a sculptor I suspect I might have been back in the night with a chainsaw.

Awesome! What a great eye you have! Fri 16-Jul-2004 01:48

Hi all.

Sorry, I've been neglecting things lately, but you know what it's like, thousands of things to do and the camera never in the right place at the right time.

Should be back on the ball from now.

Care to comment?

Challenge 29 - The Absence of Colour

For me, Black and White has to be the medium for portraits. The starkness and shadowing always lend depth to the character and mystery of the person on camera. (Although I have to work a bit more on the light balance!).

This is one of the builders who works for us. Despite the reasonably posed stance he wasn't aware it was being taken.
